Around 1917 C.C. Roberts introduced the Mud Puppy. It was the first tail spinning top water musky lure.
Roberts got the idea after watching a musky chase a salamander in the shallows of the Rib River. The
bait has proved to be phenomenal and has produced muskies up to 52 pounds. When Roberts died, his
tackle company was willed to Jim Rheinschmidt Sr., who had worked with Roberts as a youth. Today,
Rheinschmidt's son, Jim Rheinschmidt Jr., carries on the tradition of manufacturing one of muskie
fishing's most innovative lures. Several models and colors are available.

Super Mud Puppy Model 107

The Super Mud Puppy is 6.75" long and has two tail fins. This gives it a large profile and a more tail splash.
Just like the original baits, this lure is designed to release the lure body if the fish shakes his head during the
fight. The muskie is a fierce battler and many large fish are lost when they throw the bait during a
spectacular leap. That won't happen to you if you're fishing a Mud Puppy. Once the fish has been safely
landed the lure body can be retrieved.

Super Mud Puppy River Model 108

The Super Mud Puppy "River Model" is the same size as the Super Mud Puppy ( 6.75") and also has two tail
fins. The main difference is that it has two hooks attached permanently to the bait. This is because if the lure
was thrown during the fight it would float down river during the battle. The 2 hook model but requires more
angling skill on the part of the fisherman to keep the line tight.

Mud Puppy River Model 103

The Standard Mud Puppy "River Model" is 6.25" long and has one tail fin. This model has three hooks
attached permanently to the bait. This keeps you from having to chase the lure down river if it gets thrown
by the fish. It has the same great action as the detachable hook model but due to it's smaller size and hook
placement only one fin is needed to give it the proper action.

Little Mud Puppy Model 100

The Little Mud Puppy is slightly smaller than the Standard Mud Puppy ( 5.75") and has one tail fin. Like
the original baits, this lure is designed to release the lure body if the fish shakes his head during the
fight. The muskie is a fierce battler and many large fish are lost when they throw the bait during a
spectacular leap. That won't happen to you if you're fishing a Mud Puppy. Once the fish has been safely
landed the lure body can be retrieved. When I decided to sell Mud Puppy baits, I bought one of every
color and size. I took them all down to the lake and proceeded to cast and take notes on every one.
Sometimes when you're fishing, it's either color, size or action that turns out being the key trigger. If
looking for the bait with the best action (My opinion after testing every model) it's the Little mud puppy.
When size or color don't seem to matter, fish the little Mud Puppy!!
