Back in the 1950's, muskie's were on the minds of two Wisconsin men who fished the waters of
the north woods. Wanting a lure with greater muskie appeal, they developed the Gopher.
Designed to mimic the swimming action of a small rodent, the original lure proved to be very
successful. The original Gophers are now highly sought after by antique lure collectors. The
Gopher bait is now made again by one of the original makers. August Machtig of Sheboygan,
Wisconsin is now producing the Gopher, Baby gopher, Musky duckling and Nicky mouse. I
have The Gopher and baby Gopher baits, in all 8 colors, available for your consideration. The
Gopher baits are constructed with wooden bodies, unique flock finish and through wire
construction. Each bait has a collector ID number etched on the paddles. The musky gopher is
8.5" long and weights 2 ounces. It sports 5/0 treble hooks and stainless steel paddles. This
bait is designed to fish slow and could be the slowest bait you own. For best results, cast the
bait out and let it settle. Now, give the lure a twitch or two and begin a slow retrieve. Not too
fast or you'll spoil the action.
Tip : Most people buy this bait as a collectible but it is made to catch fish! I have found that a
drop of hot sauce oil helps the paddles spin and the more you fish it the better it gets.
